do you remember the first time you were called annoying?
how your breath stopped short in your chest
the way the light drained from your eyes, though you knew your cheeks were ablaze
the way your throat tightened as you tried to form an argument that got lost on your tongue.
your eyes never left the floor that day.
you were 13.
you’re 20 now, and i still see the light fade from your eyes when you talk about your interests for “too long,”
apologies littering every other sentence,
words trailing off a cliff you haven’t jumped from in 7 years.
i could listen to you forever, though i know speaking for more than 3 uninterrupted minutes makes you anxious.
all i want you to know is that you deserve to be heard
for 3 minutes
for 10 minutes
for 2 hours
there will be people who cannot handle your grace, your beauty, your wisdom, your heart;
mostly because they can’t handle their own.
but you will never be
and have never been
What God Wants You to do Today.
1. Be Thankful. Give thanks for Today and for all you have. God’s Will for our life includes a constant spirit of gratitude regardless of our circumstances. When we choose to give thanks, even if our circumstances don’t improve, our perspective certainly will.
“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-28
2. Don’t Worry. Refuse to let fear rob you of your peace. God is bigger than whatever you’re stressed about! Give your worries over to Him.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6
3. Seek God. He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to pursue His Kingdom because you will eternally be part of it.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33
4. Help Others. We live in a selfish world, but selfishness isn’t part of God’s plan for any of our lives. He wants us to care for others every chance we get.
“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” James 1:27
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10
5. Trust God. Every difficult circumstance in your life is something God will use for your good and His glory. He has great blessings in store for you. Trust Him and don’t give up!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. “ Jeremiah 29:11
Remember, God will never waste anything you go through in life. If you’ll keep the right attitude, He’ll turn that situation around for your good. It doesn’t matter how you got there, whether it was by your own poor choices or maybe someone else treated you unfairly, God wants to use that situation to do a work in you. He’ll take that evil and turn it around for your good. You may be uncomfortable at times, but you’ve got to know that you are growing, and God is building your character.
Genesis 39: 21 “But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love.”
Regardless of his situation, which was extremely unfair, God had a reason for Joseph’s imprisonment and never ever left his side.
Mark 9: 23-24, 29 “Anything is possible if a person believes. The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!’…This kind can be cast out only by prayer.”
Prayer is important. Prayer and faith go along together. Both are very essential to building and maintaining a strong relationship with God.
Mark 9: 35,37 “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else… Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.”
What serving God really looks like.
Mark 9:40, 42 “Anyone who is not against us is for us. But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck.”
Jesus speaks the truth into our lives, even though it hurts.
Mark 9:49 “You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.”
Another command to love one another.
Romans 9: 20-21 “Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, ‘Why have you made me like this?’ When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?”
This hits home because I am continuously insecure about my appearance and blame God for making me the way He did. This puts my insecurity on a totally different perspective.
I know I said that I would update this more frequently..and I told myself that I would fight to become happier, but it has been really difficult at times (especially when the weather is EXTREMELY crappy and your hormones, aka, PMS, consumes you). I know that some people think PMS isn’t real and that it is just in the mind, but honestly, IT IS NOT. It really really isnt. IT is REAL guys.
Like, for example, yesterday, I went from extremely happy, to extremely moody JUST because I couldn’t find my HUMMUS in the fridge. I literally CRIED because I couldn’t find it. Now…how do you explain that? Am I just over dramatic? Am I really sensitive? NO. PMS does that to you. Your mood flips at the littlest things.
Anyway, I wish I had more photos, but I guess I don’t really take photos much, but here are some photos that I did manage to take… (notice, most are selfies or food) :P
Ate brunch at East Quad with Lexie! It was great just talking about life and catching up and then most importantly talking about what God is doing in our lives. Although we go to different churches and we met through the Mexico trip, I’m so thankful for this friendship!
And then she invited me to listen to her testimony at her church, so Nina and I went! Awesome “slice of life” Lexie!
Here are some snacks that we ate at my birthday party. I don’t really remember eating most, but the chips. OH THOSE COSTCO CHIPS AND THAT DIP !!!!!!!!
I screenshoted Shien’s instgram post of our roommates all performing in our perspective art. LOL
Selfie before the 22nd birthday partyyy!
22nd birthday dinner at Sadako was a bust, but at least they gave us free Tempura ice cream to compensate. We had to wait 15 minutes to sit at a crappy table meant for 2, but 3 peopel sat there. No one came to ask us what we wanted to order for the longest time. Then our food didnt’ come out for the longest time. People who came later then us got their food and already left at this point. The a busboy dropped water all over Joe. It was a good day. OH and I was craving PHO not SUSHI. :D
Thank you for the blessings everyone! Yes this is ghetto and screnshotted. get over it :P
And then I got a HUGE paper cut at work. This was like 10 papercuts into one cut. It hurt.
Me before the LiNK mass meeting. Boss status? ;)
Messing around before the LiNK mass meeting. Talk show style with the VP and the Operations Chair.
Trying to be committed to eating healthy and working out more! Off to pilates!
It is just too cold to walk around anywhere. I hate the cold. nonononono.
Sangrias with the bestie and roommate. Our friendship is like a rollercoaster, but despite the ups and downs, still thankful for our perseverance.
Thank you Kevin Chen for buying me UDON and SUSHI! Was super blessed that a freshman would buy me dinner! And UDON is one of my favorite foods :D
Winter hats are the best. They protect your ears so well. But they also make me look 5 years old. Mind you, I am now 22 years old!
COLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. GET ME OUT OF HERE.
Had to work 9 hours on a Saturday to set up food and stuff that people didn’t even end up eating. They totally over-ordered.
So…I laid down my pride and invited some hungry lifegroup members to break fast with me by sharing the love!
After our LiNK GetLiNKed meeting, I was just being crazy and on a sugar high.
Yeeun and I went to Lutheran chapel for PRAYUM 40 days of prayer for Umich. I found this book and this chapter caught my eye.
Everytime I meet up with this girl, we just eat eat eat eat. BUT IT WAS SO GOOD. We also had fries and a salad after this. LOL
SLC Study group leaders invited me to a convention that had free food. This is us being interested in the students’ work and then we grabbed food and BOUNCED.
Feasting at East Quad with some LiNK girls. This wasn’t all the food we ate. There was more.
Random tests that I take when I’m bored. I think this describes me pretty well?
Where is the sidewalk. where where where? I just want to stay home, watch a movie, and drink hot chocolate.
Trying to be 109 by Valentines Day. Trying to win another bet! We shall see if it really works….
Had to screenshot this awesome detox water idea! FINALLY went grocery shopping yesterday and bought some of these things (minus the mint leaves).
On my way to the gym and found a rabbit in the snow! SO CUTE.
Bought this because I really like the water bottle. I just re-fill it with water because otherwise that is just WAY too expensive. DRINK YOUR WATER EVERYONE!
Now, time to study for this econ exam I have tonight. PEACE!
1) Read the bible from cover to cover.
One of my 2014 New Year’s Resolutions. Therefore I will write down the one thing I learned or something that stood out from these past two day’s reading passages.
Acts 15: 1-11
Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Phariseesstood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
It is not through our customs or acts that save us or even our racial or national identities, but it is by the grace of Jesus Christ that we are saved and able to be saved :). God’s love has no boundaries.
Matthew 16: 24-25
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him
deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
This passage always comes up every once in a while and I am reminded by the cost at which Jesus calls us to follow Him. He tells us to leave everything behind and go after Him. Without. ever. looking. back. Are we able to do that for Him?
Nehamiah 6: 12-14
12 And I understood and saw that God had not sent him, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.13 For this purpose he was hired, that I should be afraid and act in this way and sin, and so they could give me a bad name in order to taunt me.14 Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid.
Nehamiah is able to forgive and even PRAY for the people that wronged him and tried to discourage him. I bet this made it easier for Him to forgive them and leave in freedom from bondages that arise from relationship problems. Wow. I wish I was more like Nehamiah.
16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men areservants[e] of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” 18 And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
Paul got annoyed! He was human after all, but the reason for his annoyance was reasonable, whereas most of my annoyances stems from my inability to love people.
